Belted galloways

On a farm near Nebo, Kentucky, I sighted some cows that looked like they were wearing girdles. Others called them "oreo cows." I learned that the breed is called belted galloways, and they are from Scotland. To learn more about them, check out http://www.beltie.org/.

The moon's a harsh mistress

I love the moon, especially when it's full.
I am also fascinated with the mirror properties of water.

THE MOON'S A HARSH MISTRESS
(Jimmy Webb)

See her how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
And lord it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pine
And then the darkness fell
The moon's a harsh mistress
It's hard to love her well

I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face
I tripped and I missed my star
I fell and fell alone
The moon's a harsh mistress
The sky is made of stone
The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own

Goats Flee

copyright 2005
One Spring day I was driving on a gravel road I often travel in search of photo opportunities. Suddenly, a herd of goats appeared in the middle of the road where before no goats had been seen.
