The moon's a harsh mistress

I love the moon, especially when it's full.
I am also fascinated with the mirror properties of water.

THE MOON'S A HARSH MISTRESS
(Jimmy Webb)

See her how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
And lord it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pine
And then the darkness fell
The moon's a harsh mistress
It's hard to love her well

I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face
I tripped and I missed my star
I fell and fell alone
The moon's a harsh mistress
The sky is made of stone
The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own

I love that song. I had no idea it was written by Jimmy Webb. Of course, I've only ever heard it sung by Joe Cocker, on many a long night when I was a college freshman a zillion years ago.

As always, your moon pictures are wonderful. There is a passage from Thoreau about seeing the sky in water that always had a profound effect on me. Sometime I'll look it up and post it.
